A one-of-a-kind hotel and rooftop restaurant in downtown Tuscaloosa celebrated its grand opening on Thursday with a ribbon cut.
The five floors, 120 rooms AC Hotel Downtown Tuscaloosa by Mariott presents the Fifth on Sixth rooftop bar, and for guest use includes an outdoor patio, 24-hour gym and a European-inspired breakfast buffet.
During the grand opening, they held a raffle for the guests, including freebies for hotel stays in other Southeastern Mariotts, gift baskets and more.
Local leaders, including Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox, West Alabama Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Jim Page, attended the event.
Maddox said he is happy the neighborhood is coming back to life as the hotel sits on the former site of Fire Hall No.1, which is now located at the corner of Greensboro Avenue and 15th Street.
“The city has worked with AC Hotels for several years,” Maddox said. “It really is a celebration because we are taking this part of the city’s history and turning it into something that will not only generate tax revenue but continue to show the revitalization of downtown Tuscaloosa.”
AC Mariott Hotels sales manager Darren Segura said he hopes the community will embrace the new rooftop bar.
“I am delighted to open this hotel downtown,” he said.
The hotel is located at 2885 6th St., Tuscaloosa. Fifth on Sixth is open Monday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and closed on Sunday.
