Netflix’s Enola Holmes 2 Starring Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill Gets Mixed Reviews
Enola Holmes should return to our screens in November with a sequel. Ahead of its release, early reviews came out and reception seemed mixed. Critics call Millie Bobby Brown’s film a step up from its predecessor, which in itself was plagued with average reviews.
Enola Holmes 2 follows Brown’s character as she attempts to track down a missing factory worker, only to find the case is much bigger and more sinister than she originally anticipated. Along with Brown, Henry Cavill is Sherlock Holmes, Enola’s older brother. Here’s what the movie’s official synopsis reads: “Enola Holmes takes on her first case as a detective, but to solve the mystery of a missing girl, she’ll need the help of friends – and her brother sherlock.
In his first impressions, IndieWire wrote, “Despite Enola’s desire to escape the shadow of her famous big brother, her film franchise fails to emerge from the hidden presence of Sherlock; in fact, it is not at all clear that this is even the intention. Co-star Henry Cavill does a dashing Sherlock and his scenes with Brown are adorable, but too much of the film is preoccupied with diving into his own life and profession (which has plenty of adaptations already, thank you).
Whereas Collider was much more positive towards the sequel pointing out that it tries to avoid the same pitfalls that many sequels fall into, writing “the story successfully builds on the first, highlighting what made it so work well, but also allowing these things to grow beyond their origins” further adding “At just over two hours, Enola Holmes 2 is paced, leaving just enough wiggle room for the characters to thrive and do what they do best. It’s a movie with a lot of moving parts, but not so many that audiences will lose track, and in that way, it’s a movie worth rewatching – or more.
Netflix has yet to confirm the existence of a third film. However, given Brown and Cavill’s star power, we think it’s only a matter of time. For now, however, Enola Holmes 2 is set to return to our screens on November 4.
