Men’s and Women’s Crew Teams Host Touchdown Regatta on October 30

ITHACA, NY – Ithaca hosted crews from Hobart and William Smith, Mercyhurst, RIT, Heavy Men from Cornell and Cornell’s Cascadilla Boat Club on Saturday, October 30. The crews raced 3,500 meters on Cayuga Inlet against the clock in Head Race Mode (one at a time). There were two flights allowing individual athletes to run twice in various alignments.

Flight number one included 51 rounds in male pairs, ladies paired pairs, four and eight. Ithaca’s highlights included the two college men’s 8’s who finished first and third among seven 8’s. They sandwiched their rival RIT who finished second. Ithaca also won the women’s 4 against William Smith and Mercyhurst.

29 shells, all 4 or 8, returned to the water for the second flight. The men’s competition was dominated by the Cornell heavyweights, but the Ithaca Varsity finished sixth of 13. The women’s Bomber 8 team rowed the fastest women’s time of the day and won the 8 against seven other crews.

Regatta Notes – Massive torrential rain three days before the competition left Cayuga Lake in flood stage and the regatta was called into question. Ithaca and Cornell staff worked diligently to clear the debris and set up the course. We are grateful to you! It was Ithaca’s last competition for the fall rowing season.

The next Bomber race will be the Cayuga Duals on the same body of water on April 2, 2022. Full results and rosters can be found here.
