Man arrested in pedophilia investigation


October 23 — An Elkhart man faces sexual assault charges after a victim allegedly recalls memories by scent.

Christapher Myers, 39, was arrested by Elkhart police and jailed on Thursday for pedophilia as part of the investigation into the case.

Myers was accused of inappropriately touching the victim about six or seven years ago, when the victim was close to a toddler. When questioned by investigators, the victim alleged that Myers’ scent brings back memories of incidents with him, according to details in a probable cause affidavit.

A detective questioned Myers earlier in October and he allegedly admitted to having a touching incident after getting excited, according to the affidavit.

After his arrest on Thursday, the affidavit shows Myers denied any contact, saying the confession he made was because he believed he was giving information the detective wanted to hear.

Information from the prison shows that he was sentenced to $ 300,000 bail. The case is expected to be formally filed in Elkhart County Superior Court 3.


The staff of Fairfield Jr.-Sr. The high school reported to Elkhart County Police on Thursday that students shared the nude photo of a school teenager, 67530 US 33, near Goshen during school hours.

The photo was viewed on phones via social media, police said in a report.


Roberto Hernandez, Goshen, reported to Goshen Police that he was robbed by someone he knows at the Kroger gas station, 612 W. Pike St., around 9:25 pm Thursday.


James Bond, 37, 1525 Stevens Ave., Elkhart, was arrested by Goshen Police and jailed for driving a vehicle while intoxicated following a traffic stop at US 33 and Sunnyside Avenue around 8:15 p.m. Thursday.


Meg Kauffman reported to Elkhart County Police that she was beaten in a house, 12588 Pine Cone Drive, near Middlebury at around 5:40 p.m. Thursday.


– A van driven by Pamela Mendenhall, Elkhart, overturned a car driven by Kimberly Carr, South Bend, as Carr slowed down for traffic on CR 17 near CR 10 around 12:30 p.m. Friday, County Police said ‘Elkhart in a press release.

Carr was taken to Elkhart General Hospital to receive medical treatment for a non-life threatening injury, police said.

Mendenhall did not report any injuries. She was cited by police for following another vehicle too closely.

– Sema Reid, Elkhart, lost control of the SUV he was driving, veered off the road and struck a tree along Redfield Street near Kline Road in Cass County, Michigan around 5 p.m. Thursday, the report said. Cass County Police in a press release.

Reid was taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital to receive treatment for injuries from the crash, police said.


—Eloisa Romo Aguilar, Goshen, reported to Goshen Police that her purse was stolen from the Old Bag Factory, 1100 Chicago Ave., around 4:25 pm Thursday.

—Abigail Wilkerson, Goshen, reported to Goshen Police that her trash was stolen from her home, 410 E. Purl St., at around 11:20 am Thursday.

– Grand Design RV staff reported to Elkhart County Police on Wednesday that two trailers were stolen from a lot at the company, 11333 CR 2, near Middlebury between October 11 and Monday.


Gregory Wyatt reported to Elkhart County Police that a window on his vehicle was smashed while parked at a house, 732 Broadmore Estates, between 2:30 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. Thursday.


Amanda Kain reported to Elkhart County Police that her vehicle was struck by a Ford Flex in US 20 and CR 19 at around 6:55 p.m. Wednesday. The driver of the Flex then left the scene without exchanging information.
