The Philadelphia 76ers are still grappling with the Ben Simmons saga. However, they haven’t stopped figuring out how to improve their War Chest.

The NBA is in the era of jersey branding like NASCAR uniforms, and the Sixers have lined up with an important partner. Crypto.com is now the organization’s next brand partner. The partnership is also Crypto.com’s first in the NBA.

The great revelation

The Crypto.com logo will now appear on team jerseys. In addition, there will be other exhibition opportunities during the partnership within the Wells Fargo Center during the season.

The patch debuts on player uniforms during the preseason, when the 76ers face the Toronto Raptors on October 4.

“We are delighted to launch a long-term partnership with such a progressive team at Crypto.com, a company that shares our drive for greatness,” said Chris Heck, President of Business Operations for Sixers.

“Crypto.com will be woven into the fabric of our identity, and together we will change the landscape of how crypto is integrated into sports.”

Sixers enters the digital future

Crypto.com is a fast growing crypto platform with over 10 million users worldwide. The app, founded in 2016, is among the world’s best platforms for trading non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

The Sixers’ new uniform sponsorship agreement replaces StubHub. Since the NBA began allowing advertising logos on team uniforms during the 2017-18 season, the online ticket seller has been the sponsor of the Sixers jersey.

After changing ticket platforms from StubHub to TicketMaster, patch sponsor Sixers obviously needed to be replaced.

Additionally, all four versions of the Sixers’ uniform this season will feature the Crypto.com patch on the left shoulder of the shirt.

“We are extremely happy to announce our partnership with the 76ers,” said Kris Marszalek, co-founder and CEO of Crypto.com. “The NBA is one of the most popular leagues in the world, and the 76ers were an obvious choice. Together we will create integrated experiences for fans around the world; our patch and short integrations are just the beginning.

Why big technology?

Crypto.com has a large portfolio of sports partnerships. They include a wide range of sports brands like the UFC, Formula 1, the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League and Paris Saint-Germain, the French professional soccer team.

The Sixers made history in 2016 when they became the first major professional sports team to announce a jersey patch sponsorship in the United States.

Excitingly, the Sixers will unveil their new City Edition uniform in November. According to the team, the revelation “will commemorate an iconic moment in 76ers history.” This also coincides with a series of NFTs that will be available on Crypto.com.

The Simmons factor

So how does all of this fit in with the current roster status of the Sixers and their reluctant star player, Ben Simmons?

This is not the case.

The deal for a new patch sponsor was already being worked out separately, aside from Simmons’ angst with the organization.

However, that should send a signal to Simmons that they care about their results and are moving the ball around the field, even in the back office.

By paving the way for jersey patch sponsorship, the Sixers have definitely changed professional basketball. Now they will try to keep the same energy on the ground.

So will we see an NFT-branded Ben Simmons Sixers? Only time will tell.
