Factory worker arrested in fake theft case


An employee of a cardboard factory has been arrested for allegedly concocting a theft story in an attempt to embezzle ₹ 2 lakh, police said on Tuesday.

DCP (outside) Parvinder Singh said the accused was identified as Sanjay, a resident of Swarn Park in Mundka.

Police said that on Saturday a PCR call was received at Nangloi Police Station where the appellant said two people assaulted his driver, who was drunk, and snatched 2 lakh from him. “When police arrived at the scene, driver Sanjay said he owned a Bolero pickup. On Saturday morning, he delivered a shipment of cardboard to Budhana in Uttar Pradesh and collected 2 lakh on behalf of the owner of the shipment, Puneet Arora, ”Singh said.

Sanjay further said he was drinking when he returned around 9 p.m. Near Sukhi Nahar, two or three people beat him up and they took away ₹ 2 lakh which he was going to hand over to Mr. Arora, he told police.

However, during questioning, police said, he was found giving different versions and unable to explain exactly how the amount was stolen. No injuries could be seen on his body, which further raised suspicion, police said.

Police scanned more than 50 CCTV images near the suspected location, but no such incidents were found.

Police said based on the CCTV footage as well as tracking down Sanjay’s movement, he was further questioned as to where he broke down and revealed he had concocted a fake story of Sanjay. theft for the purpose of embezzling the money, the officer said.

A case was registered at the Nangloi police station and the money was recovered, Singh said.
