Seven sandalwood trees stolen from Ammunition Factory, cops suspect same gang of stealing trees from HEF


Seven other sandalwood trees were felled and stolen recently in the high security premises of the Khadki Ammunition Factory (AFK). Purushottam Kumar (58), junior site manager at AFK, submitted the first information report on this case to the Khadki police station on Monday.

Last week, an FIR was filed at Khadki police station about the theft of eight sandalwood trees from the premises of the High Explosive Factory (HEF) in Khadki. Ketan Patange, a junior site foreman who is also head of the security section of HEF, lodged the complaint in this case at the Khadki police station.

Police said the thefts at AFK and HEF took place between 6 p.m. on June 19 and 6 a.m. on June 20. Police suspect the same gang of sandalwood thieves were involved in both incidents.

According to Kumar’s complaint, seven sandalwood trees with diameters ranging from three inches to six inches, located in the area of ​​AFK’s Boat Club, were cut down and stolen by unidentified people. The stolen sandalwood is estimated at Rs 20,000.

Patange’s complaint mentions that eight sandalwood trees estimated at Rs 70,000, located in the magazine region inside the HEF, were stolen. In both FIRs, police convicted unidentified defendants under section 370 of the Indian Penal Code.

AFK Investigator Vikas Shinde Police Sub-Inspector said: “AFK officials filed the FIR after conducting an internal investigation into the sandalwood thefts. We opened an investigation… ”.

Police sources said a total of 15 sandalwood trees stolen from AFK and HEF premises indicated security breaches at these sensitive establishments.
