Buyers have warned of the Christmas nightmare; fuel crisis “taken back under control” – business live | Business

The UK oil crisis appears to have affected the number of vehicles on the roads.

Traffic volumes decreased by six percentage points Monday, compared with the previous week, new data from the Office for National Statistics show.

Volumes were the lowest for a non-holiday Monday since mid-July.

Long queues at forecourts and the closure of many gas stations discouraged some motorists from getting behind the wheel because they did not have enough fuel to travel safely to work or shops and back. They may also have conserved gasoline, worried about the duration of the crisis.

Many companies have already warned that deliveries are disrupted by the chaos at gas stations and customers or staff cannot enter.

Tuesday, Amy Boulanger, owner of Wisbech based Halo beauty and holistic therapy, said his business was affected:

“I’ve seen a number of customers cancel at the last minute because they didn’t have gas or diesel. Others are stuck in the queues because people block the roads while waiting to enter gas stations and therefore miss their appointments. The 5-minute trips for mobile appointments took 45 minutes to an hour to get to because the roads are blocked.

It’s the last thing any business struggling to bounce back from Covid shutdowns needs. ”

Shirley chief, director of the Petersfield women’s clothing store, Velvet & Rose, also warned on Tuesday that the crisis hit businesses at the start of the week:

The city center has seemed quiet in recent days and that’s because people fear traveling very far.

The ONS also reports that jobs for transportation, logistics and warehousing are operating at 367% of their pre-pandemic level. It shows the severity of the pressure on the UK supply chain and highlights why Christmas will be difficult.

Here are the details :

TRAFFIC – Figures from the Ministry of Transport show that the volume of motor vehicle traffic on Monday September 27, 2021 decreased by 6 percentage points from the previous week to 95% of the level observed on Monday of the first week of February 2020 ; this is the lowest volume of traffic on a Monday that is not a holiday since Monday, July 12, 2021.

The 6 percentage point week-over-week decline in motor vehicle traffic volume was in part due to a 6 percentage point drop in car and light commercial vehicle traffic, to 91% and 106% of the level observed on Monday of the first week of February 2020, respectively; while heavy truck traffic fell by 3 percentage points to 107%

JOB ADS – According to Adzuna, on September 24, 2021, the total volume of online job vacancies increased by 2% compared to the previous week and was at 135% of its average level of February 2020; the “transportation, logistics and warehousing” category continues to see the highest volume of online job vacancies compared to its February 2020 level and stands at 367% of that level last week.
